Fairy Glen Falls at Fairy Glen, Conwy Valley, Wales — fine art landscape photography print by Liam Hancox

Fairy Glen Falls

Fairy Glen Falls had been on the list for a while — the location was planned, the timing less so. Driving around Scotland chasing whatever the weather was offering, this particular morning looked promising enough to make it worth an early start before the crowds arrived.

The walk up the valley is easy enough — no scramble, no drama — which makes it a popular spot. Getting there early was the right call. Just the falls, the pool, and the kind of quiet that disappears the moment a minibus empties.

The light was the happy accident. Fresh spring growth catching the diffused morning glow filtering through the canopy — the whole scene backlit in that particular shade of green that only exists for a few weeks a year. An overcast sky that might have been a disappointment anywhere else was doing exactly the right thing here, softening everything without killing the colour. The long exposure turned the cascading fans of water into something closer to silk against the dark, wet rock behind.

Some mornings just give you what you need.
