Aberdaron Beach
A family weekend away on the Llŷn Peninsula — and after dinner, I slipped away with the camera.
Aberdaron Beach is beautiful in a quiet, understated way, but what caught my eye was the water swirling around the foreground rock as each wave retreated. That circular motion, the way it eddied and pulled back across the sand — I knew what I wanted, it just took a few attempts to get it exactly right. A 0.6 second exposure at f/13 was enough to smooth the incoming waves into soft ribbons while still holding the texture of the rocks and the headland beyond.
The green of the moss-covered rocks is the one anchor of colour in an otherwise cool, muted scene — grey sky, pale sand, the sea sitting somewhere between white and silver. That contrast is what keeps the eye moving through the frame.
