Talacre Lighthouse at Talacre, North Wales — fine art landscape photography print by Liam Hancox

Talacre Lighthouse

This sunset was incredible. I was driving home from Snowdonia and noticed the clouds catching light reflected off the Irish Sea. I quickly pulled over and went hunting for a sunset location on my way-ish home — the Lighthouse came up first on Google and looked promising, so the sat nav was reprogrammed and a 30-minute detour was a go.

Finding it from the car park took a while — the dunes were vast — but I eventually got to the shore, set the bag down, and got the camera out. The sun dropped right to the horizon just as I was set up, that golden line stretching across the sea with the reflection running straight towards the lighthouse. If you look carefully you can even make out wind turbines on the horizon — old and new in the same frame.

I got rained on, but the rain only improved things — it’s what gave the sky that smooth gradient of colour. In terms of editing: I didn’t touch the saturation at all, there was no need. Just lifted the shadows on the lighthouse and brightened the glass at the top.
